Islamophobia spreads all over the West as the incidents of sacrileges attempts against Islam are on the rise. Like other parts of the world, Pakistani Muslims are the state of distress and shock over the sad incident of desecration of the Quran in Swedish capital Stockholm.
At last the government of Pakistan broke its silence on the matter. As Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also condemned the desecration of the Holy Quran, considering it a condemnable act on the occasion of Eid al-Azha.
The religious circles as well as general public are asking the government to expel the Swedish Ambassador , but if it is not possible then at least Foreign Office should call the Ambassador of Sweden to make protest on the incident of blasphemy at official level.
After the incident many Islamic countries like Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Iran have summoned Swedish diplomats to register their protest against this incident.
MoFA issued the condemning statement on the incident by saying that while freedom of expression and the right to protest are fundamental, such acts that deliberately ignite hatred and violence cannot be justified. Under the international law, states have an obligation to prevent any attempts at religious hatred that incite violence. Pakistan reiterates that the right to freedom of expression and opinion does not license the propagation of hatred or the sabotage of interfaith harmony.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed concern over the series of such “Islamophobic” incidents that have occurred in the West in current year, questioning the legal framework that allows such acts that promote hatred and sabotage interfaith harmony.
According to the official statement the Swedish government, has also strongly condemned the incident of desecration of the Quran.
The statement by the Swedish government came after demands from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take actions to prevent such incidents.
The 57 Islamic states’ OIC moot was held at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah on Sunday, where the demand to prevent such incidents was made while condemning the incident that occurred on 28th June in Sweden
Swedish government in its statement said that burning the Quran or any sacred book is a disrespectful, painful, and inflammatory act. There is no place for racism, hatred towards foreigners, or intolerance in Sweden or Europe.”
According to details A 37-year-old refugee named Salwan Mumic, during a protest in front of the largest mosque in Stockholm set the pages of Holy Quran on fire. This act has sparked widespread grief, anger, and condemnation in the Muslim and Arab world. On other hand, the Swedish police have now initiated an investigation against Mumic. It is said that he belongs to Iraq.
It is the demand of the Muslims from all over the globe that all the Western states should make such legislation that would prevent every person to get involved in blasphemy against any religion and if someone commits it, he should be brought to justice.
As a matter of fact, some miscreant elements take advantage of the freedom of expression provided by the West, but this liberty does not mean to cross the limits and hurt the feeling of any community.
