Rawalakot (Special Reporter Abid Shafait): A solemn prayer ceremony was held at the historic Darul Jihad Yadgar-e-Shuhada in Rawalakot on the occasion of Jammu Martyrs’ Day, in line with similar commemorations across the state. The event began with the laying of floral wreaths at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada, followed by prayers for the elevation of the ranks of the Jammu martyrs.
Professor Dr. Salim Khan was the special guest of the ceremony, while former President of Ghazi Millat Press Club Rawalakot, Sardar Abdul Razaq Khan, presided over the event. The ceremony was hosted by renowned lawyer, Sardar Abdul Khaliq Advocate.
In his address, Sardar Abdul Khaliq Advocate said that Darul Jihad Yadgar-e-Shuhada holds great historical significance, and organizing national commemorations at this site is a time-honored tradition. He emphasized the importance of educating the younger generation about the sacrifices of their forefathers so that they remain connected to their history and national struggle.
The speakers highlighted that more than two hundred thousand Kashmiris were martyred in the early weeks of November 1947 due to the brutalities of the Dogra regime. They noted that the Kashmiri nation has been observing Jammu Martyrs’ Day with deep respect and devotion for the past seventy-eight years to honor these sacrifices.
The speakers added that the martyrs of Jammu refused to live under Dogra oppression and laid down their lives for the sake of freedom and dignity. They stressed that the survival and strength of any nation lie in keeping alive the memory of such sacrifices, and therefore, it is essential to acquaint the younger generation with the legacy of the Kashmir freedom movement and the mission of its martyrs.
