Due to malfunctioning of the water drainage system, the rain water entered the homes and shopping centers of the city and the people had to evacuate the vanities to save their lives.
The Coastal Highway that is linking the city to Karachi also came under water between Gawadar and Sarbadan.
Now it is the point of ponder that the important city of Gawadar about which the government is claiming that an international seaport is being constructed there, but just one heavy rainfall has unveiled the tall claims of the government. If the state of affairs is so appalling in the most important commercial hub of Balochistan, where both federal as well as provincial governments are carrying out different development projects, then what would be the condition in other parts of the province.
Though the natural calamity is at God’s will, it may be termed a conspiracy theory too, as some of the analysts have the point of view that many countries of the world have attained the ‘harp technology’ which can control the weather of any particular area on peculiar times. It is very much possible that the under a plot, same technology might be used to destroy the infrastructure of the Gawadar seaport and upset the development that took place there, as the making of port at this geographically significant place and involvement of China in it, is the thorn of eye for many of global powers. But, it would be premature to say anything about this fear, which can only be called as just hypotheses at this juncture of time.
In this regards, the geological experts say that that the Gawadar city is the coastal city and its natural altitude is inclined towards sea shore and it is not practically feasible that the rain water may gather in the city for a long time as it directly falls into the sea.
Now it is the responsibility of the federal and provincial disaster management authorities as well as the local bodies to come forward and to help out the affectees by utilizing all the resources on a war footing basis.
It is also necessary that the bottlenecks in the drainage system and illegal construction from Gawadar city should be removed so that the rain water may get paths for smooth flow towards the sea.
The caretaker prime minister and the interim chief minister Balochistan, being sons of the province, have double responsibilities to allocate more funds for the rehabilitation of the people affected by the flood and revamping the road and building infrastructure on priority basis so that the vital shore city could be saved from any destruction in future.
As the Gawadar port has a tangible key position in the Pak China Economic Corridor (CPEC) so the government must leave no stone unturned to transform the city into a state of the art financial center as future development of the country also depends on the progress of Gawadar.
