Mark Wood of England wants to reach peak performance before the World Cup

Ahead of this year’s Twenty20 World Cup in Australia, England bowler Mark Wood expressed confidence that he can get back to peak physical condition and perform at his best “at the correct time.”
Wood, who was out for the entirety of the English summer owing to an elbow injury, made his international cricket comeback on Friday in Karachi by taking three wickets in England’s 63-run victory over Pakistan.
After the victory, Wood told Sky Sports that “My body feels OK.” I’ll probably survive off an ice maker from now on. I want to avoid pushing myself too far because if I do, I won’t be prepared for Australia. I have to reach my peak at the appropriate time so that when the World Cup rolls around, I’m ready to go.
“I’m only a little bit worn out. I hadn’t played in a while, but I really felt very decent before the game. Nothing compares to playing a game, no matter how much time I’ve spent in the gym and how much running I’ve done.
With the victory, England improved to 2-1 in the seven-match series. On Sunday, England will play Pakistan as both teams continue to get ready for the T20 World Cup, which will take place from October 16 to November 13.
A massive 222 was set as the winning total, but Pakistan were rocked early on by the blistering pace of Wood (3-24), who dismissed Babar Azam (8) and Haider Ali (3) to leave the hosts shaky on 28-4.
With a valiant half-century, Shan Masood (65 not out) briefly gave the pursuit new life, but Pakistan, who had just thrashed England by 10 wickets, found the total to be well beyond their reach.
After being given the opportunity to bat, England posted 221-3 after debutant Will Jacks (40) had given them a strong start. Brook (81) and Duckett (70) both scored their first T20 fifty-run scores and had an unbroken 139-run stand for the fourth wicket.
Before Duckett and Brook took full advantage of a flat batting surface and shredded the Pakistan attack with some magnificent strokeplay, leg-spinner Usman Qadir (2-48) quickly dismissed Jacks and Dawid Malan (14) from the game.
When compared to Duckett, who employed the sweep stroke to lethal effect during his 42-ball performance, Brook was particularly brilliant as he hit five sixes.
Tomorrow at the same location, the teams will play their fourth game.
