KARACHI: Google is launching an “Android Earthquake Alerts System” in Pakistan that will send automated early warning alerts to help people prepare for emergencies.

The system uses accelerometers in enabled Android smartphones to detect seismic activity. It alerts people in two ways — through search and directly on the Android mobile device.
This system provides instant information to Google search. When people search for “earthquake” or “earthquake near me,” they’ll find related results, as well as helpful resources about what to do after an earthquake.
People who do not wish to receive these notifications can turn it off in the device settings.
