Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa, the outgoing Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), praised the players’ “fighting spirit” when speaking with them at the reception held by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday. He said that it lifted the country.
The COAS and President Dr. Arif Alvi met the T20 World Cup team at a nearby hotel, where the president said that the team had “played up to its reputation as being unpredictable.”
As they advanced to the World Cup final, they defeated the top teams, President Alvi added, “making the nation proud.”
The COAS stated that while he liked Shadab Khan’s front-row batting, he also liked Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam’s.
“In my opinion, Shadab Khan is the only T20 player who possesses all the necessary skills and tricks in his sleeve.”
The COAS complimented the squad, emphasising the value of discipline and hard effort, stating they had “made the country proud by leaving the multi-billion dollar teams behind by reaching the final.”
He claimed that the team’s bowlers made the games fascinating to watch. It was thrilling to watch the bowlers give everything they had against such a little target.
He continued by saying that showing a strong will to win was more crucial than “winning or losing,” calling it the factor that “matters most.”
“Once you’ve fallen short, you should have the fortitude to concede defeat. True leadership cannot be attributed to someone who does not learn from their errors, he stated.
The COAS, who has a strong enthusiasm for sports and competed in the Patron’s Trophy in his prime, revealed to The News that he was a wicketkeeper-batsman.
“Yes, I do recall playing as a wicketkeeper-batsman and striking a century in the Patron’s Trophy Grade II match against PACO.
Ramiz Raja, the chairman of the PCB, earlier hailed his squad for a successful run over the previous three months, which included playing in the Asia Cup and World Cup finals and taking first place in the tri-nation in New Zealand.
