LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: The Power Division announced on Friday that nationwide energy transmission and generation have been restored after a nearly day-long outage, noting that only routine power load-shedding is being used.
The division stated in a statement that “electricity transmission and generation have been restored throughout Pakistan, including restoration of full supply from national grid to Karachi.”
Still uncontrolled power outage
Sources within the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) earlier today claimed that the nationwide power crisis, which was brought on by a “accidental malfunction” in the national system, had not yet been contained.
It was a serious breakdown, according to NTDC sources, and it was still out of control after 24 hours since the authorities couldn’t locate the problem.
According to the sources, load shedding has occurred in cities for four hours while a 12-hour power outage has affected rural areas.
The country still has a 4,500MW power shortage in the meanwhile, and the frequency fluctuation is complicating matters further. Power plants have not yet been fully energized.
According to the sources, the system is slowly receiving electricity back from the power plants. In addition, they noted that this is the 16th breakdown in the last ten years.
Following the discovery of a defect in the southern transmission system of the national grid on Thursday, a sizable portion of the country was without power for more than 12 hours.
Energy Minister Khurram Dastagir said that the failure was caused by a “accidental fault” and announced the creation of a committee to look into the situation and deliver a report within four days.
“Power supply in Karachi has stabilized.”
According to a statement from K-Electric, Karachi’s energy supply was gradually restored.
Strategic sites including KWSB pumping stations, airports, and hospitals received top priority as KE’s phased restoration efforts got under way, according to the power company.
The supply was later shifted to residential areas, including but not limited to PECHS, Orangi, Lyari, Ibrahim Hyderi, Nazimabad, and Defence Housing Authority.
In order to manage the technical constraints at the national grid, KE may temporarily reduce power supply to industrial zones during the night to facilitate residential regions. The technical constraints at the national grid may persist over the next 48 hours.
The electricity provider warned load shedding might also be necessary.
