Islamabad: President Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, has granted special concessions to the prisoners serving their sentences in different jails on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, exercising the powers conferred by Article 10 of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Interim Constitution of 1974. Under this provision, a special approval has been issued for a 90-day reduction in the sentences of prisoners (except those involved in anti-state activities, murder, terrorism, kidnapping, sectarianism, espionage, and crimes against the state) incarcerated in the jails of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. This measure aims to allow prisoners to celebrate Eid with their families.
This decision reflects the government’s commitment to humanitarian values and aims to provide an opportunity for prisoners to reunite with their loved ones during the festive occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. It is hoped that this gesture will contribute to fostering a sense of goodwill and reconciliation within society.
