Prime Minister Shehbaz reached Quetta to look after relief operations in flood-hit Balochistan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Quetta on Monday on a one-day visit to review the relief operations in the flood-affected areas of Balochistan, which have been devastated by floods caused by rains in recent days.

The prime minister was escorted by Defence Production Minister Israr Tareen, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Housing and Works Minister Maulana Abdul Wasay, Narcotics Control Minister Shahzain Bugti, Minister of State for Energy Mohammad Hashim Notezai, Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal MNA Salahuddin Ayubi and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lt Gen Akhtar Nawaz.

During the flight to Quetta, the Chairman of NDMA briefed the Prime Minister on the ongoing relief and rescue activities in Balochistan.

The Prime Minister will be given a detailed briefing on the situation after landing in the provincial capital. He will also visit the relief camps established in Khushnoob area of ​​Qila Saifullah district and will talk to the media on the occasion.

The Prime Minister is also expected to visit the flood-affected areas in Chaman.

Damage caused by rains and floods in Balochistan

According to PDMA, 136 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents in Balochistan since June 1, while 70 people have been injured in similar accidents during this period.

Meanwhile, several roads and bridges were washed away by floods, the PDMA said on Monday, adding that a bridge connecting Lasbela and Sindh, which was destroyed a week ago, is yet to be repaired.

The authority said that the roads connecting Quetta to Ziarat, Chaman and Sibi were also affected by the rains.

It said that 13,535 houses were damaged by rains in the province since June 1, out of which 10,129 were partially damaged and 3,406 were completely damaged.

The authority said that relief activities are ongoing in the province.

A report said that on Sunday, the situation had improved slightly in Lasbela district of the province, which is facing the worst floods ever. After which the traffic on the Quetta-Karachi highway was restored after about a week. The highway was badly damaged earlier this month after three bridges collapsed.

Meanwhile, authorities said that in Orki area of ​​Lasbela district, the administration with the help of Pakistan Army and Navy evacuated more than 20 people to safety.

Apart from that, two bodies were recovered from flood waters near Nushki and Zhob, he added. The dead include a missing person and a child who were swept away by the flood two days ago.

Heavy rains in Zhob district have reported a large number of houses collapsing, families displaced, while the flood situation worsened in Awaran area, the entire district was cut off from other parts of the province for four days due to the collapse of a bridge. And wash the streets.

Meanwhile, a large number of flood victims blocked the RCD highway connecting Quetta and Karachi at Ahmedwal against the attitude of the administration. The protesters raised slogans demanding relief and rehabilitation assistance. They complained that none of the district administration or public representatives visited their disaster-hit areas.
