Punjab governor challenges single-bench’s decision on Punjab elections date in LHC
Punjab Governor Baligh ur Rehman on Thursday challenged the decision of the single bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) related to the announcement of date of elections.
Advocate Shehzad Shaukat filed the appeal on the governor’s behalf.
The single bench decision that required the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to consult the governor regarding the date of the elections was the subject of the intra-court appeal.
Additionally, it calls for removing the sentence from the verdict that requires the governor and polling body to consult.
The applicant contended that the lead representative has no established expert in this.
The fact that Baligh ur Rehman did not sign the summary of the assembly’s dissolution was also highlighted in the petition.
As a result, the governor cannot decide when the polls will be held.
For the purpose of assisting the court, the court sent notices to the ECP and others, such as the Pakistani attorney general (AGP) and advocate general.
The hearing was postponed until Tuesday by the court.
