ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, a district and sessions court in Islamabad postponed until December 3 the actions to indict PTI senior leader Shahbaz Gill in a sedition case brought against him.

Further Sessions Public defender Raja Rizwan and Gill’s attorney Burhan Moazzam were present in court as Judge Tahir Abbas heard the case. The PTI leader was also the subject of two court petitions.

The public prosecutor stated during the hearing that he is prepared to discuss both petitions today.

A transparent trial, according to Gill’s attorney, depends on knowing who the suspects are.

“We do not know the identities of the further seven or eight suspects. In order for us to know who the suspects are, I need the list “Moazzam stated.

Two suspects are now showing up in court, according to Abbasi.

The prosecutor has insisted there are only these two suspects, the judge noted, and this is what they have said.

The prosecutor urged the court to set the next hearing for a short while after Gill’s attorney asked for the case to be postponed.

For inciting rebellion within the Pakistan Army by his comments during a private TV channel show, Gill was detained on August 9.

He was imprisoned for more than a month after being charged with sedition and attempting to reclaim weapons. However, after numerous attempts to be released, he was finally granted bail by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the sedition case on September 15.

At the Kohsar Police Station, a case against Gill has been filed under Sections 124-A (sedition), 505 (statements inciting public annoyance), and of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The PTI has been adamant in its demand for the party leader’s release on bail, claiming that he would suffer from humiliation, torture, and sexual abuse while being held by the police.

The PTI has constantly claimed that Gill had been “sexually molested,” “tortured,” and “stripped-naked” while in police custody. The assertions were, however, categorically refuted by the authorities.
