Time to avoid unwise decision

The government is mulling over to impose ban on Pakistan Tehrik-I Insaf by declaring it the terrorist organization and disqualify its chairman Imran Khan in wake of the protests that was erupted on 9th May after the arrest of Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case.

The protestors in rage entered some important defense installation including the official residence of Corps Commander Lahore and main gate of General Headquarters (GHQ) where they ransacked, but at time, Pak Army adopted the prudent way by not showing any resistance against the protestors.

The Army Chief, while speaking the special meeting of Corps Commanders, also showed his resolve that those who assaulted the important defense installations would be dealt under military laws and official secret act with iron hands.

On the other hand, the leadership of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) is regularly denying that they ordered any of the party’s worker to go towards defense installation. Rather they are saying continuously that it might be possible that some miscreants in disguise of the PTI’s supporters, to fulfil their own nefarious designs, might carried out all the damages to malign the party. PTI’s Chairman Imran Khan was of the view that he was in the custody of law enforcement agencies so he did not know exactly that what was going on outside.

But there is one thing is very clear that if there were any conspiracy against the PTI, the strategy of the plotters remained effective to throw the debris of all the wrongdoings on PTI and its chief Imran Khan.

But if the government would act upon its plan to declare PTI a terrorist outfit or put a ban on it then or disqualify Imran Khan from contesting elections , as revealed by the Interior Minister Rana San Ullah Khan, then its consequences could be very dreadful that could drag the country towards civil war like situation.

The circumstances are totally different now and then in 1979, when an elected Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was hanged. At that time the martial law prevailed the country and the protest was suppressed forcefully by using might of army. But now the situation and environment is completely changed. Now the social media has given awareness to every citizen, secondly there is not any martial law imposed in the country as due to its fear the people would not come out on the streets and thirdly the people are fed up with the current government due to excessive price hike.

Keeping all these factors in mind, it is hoped that the government would avoid taking any such action, which would increase the political turmoil in Pakistan, which would neither favor the country nor its people.

If the PML(N) thinks that it is a chance to take revenge for the disqualification of its Supremo , Nawaz Sharif then it would be proved a grave blunder, that would cost the country unlimited damage.

The government should go for elections without adding to the mess. At this time of juncture if the government would take any reckless move then a fire of hate would encircle the country, and it would be very difficult to extinguish and that would burn everything.

Pakistan is facing acute financial pressure due to the falling economy and if the government would try to remove any political force from the scenario, then its results could torrent the country and nothing would be left from the irreparable loss.

If the political hubbub would be raised, then not only the continuity of democracy could also be jeopardized but also the integrity of the country could be in danger. It is hoped that the government would abstain from taking such drastic measures which could take the country to the point of no return.
