Trailblazing Ascent: Skardu Climbers Scale Khosrogang, Pledge to Conquer K-2 Next

Skardu: A momentous achievement has been recorded by a distinguished team of climbers and vloggers from Skardu, who successfully scaled the daunting 6,400-meter high peak of Khosrogang in an impressive time of just 9 hours. This arduous expedition was capably led by the rising star of mountaineering, Muhammad Owais Janu.

Alongside Owais Asif Ashoor, a renowned photographer, vlogger, and the esteemed leader of the GB Photographer Association, accompanied by their experienced companions, Aslam, Zaheer Shagri, and Quaid Shagri. This phenomenal accomplishment has spotlighted Gilgit-Baltistan’s profound climbing heritage and the resilient spirit of its inhabitants.
Upon reaching the summit, the team paid heartfelt homage to the Gilgit-Baltistan Photographers Association for their steadfast support and exceptional contribution to regional tourism. Their triumphant endeavour underlines the spirit of exploration and highlights Gilgit-Baltistan’s potential as a prime adventure and tourism destination.

Following the victory, Owais Janu outlined his ambitious aspirations, “While the expedition to Khosrogang was an extraordinary experience, my sights are now set on the ‘Savage Mountain’, the K-2. I’m thrilled by the prospect of standing atop the world and anticipate experiencing that exhilaration once again.”
This ascent was notably facilitated by the commendable support from local and regional authorities, who ensured the team was equipped with comprehensive resources, including safety measures, high-quality gear, and a dedicated support team.
Reflecting on the journey, Asif Ashoor stated, “The expedition was a blend of demanding challenges and rewarding outcomes. The facilities and support provided by local authorities played an integral role in our successful endeavour.”
News of the successful ascent has led to widespread celebrations across Gilgit-Baltistan, with shouts of “Long live the victory. We are proud of you” echoing throughout the region. The climbers’ triumph has ignited renewed enthusiasm for local tourism and adventure sports, symbolising the untapped potential of the region and its people.
