Rawalakot: In a ground-breaking initiative, the University of Poonch Rawalkot Azad Kashmir recently hosted a two-day training workshop on Mushroom Cultivation. The event witnessed the active participation of students from the university, members of the community, generous donors, farmers, and individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Being the first of its kind in the region, this comprehensive training workshop proved to be a resounding success. Azad Kashmir, characterized by limited land holdings, necessitates viable alternatives for employment, making mushroom cultivation a significant opportunity for the region’s workforce. The participants not only gained practical experience in mushroom cultivation but also learned how to produce mushroom spawn, the essential seeds required for cultivation.
The University is committed to providing high-quality crops and comprehensive training, along with unwavering support and assistance to all farmers involved in mushroom cultivation. Moreover, they have pledged to continue training farmers, ensuring their success in this promising field. During his address to the students and attendees, horticulture subject specialist Muhammad Kashif highlighted the potential of mushrooms as a meat substitute. Mushrooms are low in cholesterol and fats, making them an excellent dietary choice for heart patients. The discussions further delved into exploring the vast possibilities offered by mushroom cultivation.
The workshop witnessed a substantial turnout, with numerous donors, community farmers, and agricultural enthusiasts participating actively. At the conclusion of the event, participants will be honored with certificates and commemorative shields as tokens of appreciation.
Expressing her gratitude, General Secretary Shabana Atiq thanked all the students and community members who participated, emphasizing the importance of such workshops in addressing the present societal needs.
