KABUL: Authorities said that a blast near a mosque rocked the Afghan capital on Friday as worshippers streamed out of afternoon prayers. The number of casualties is yet unknown, and there has been no immediate claim of responsibility.
The latest in a string of devastating explosions that have occurred at mosques during Friday prayers recently, some of which were claimed by Daesh.
After prayers, a blast occurred as people attempted to leave the mosque, according to Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran. “The actual number of casualties is not yet known, but all are civilians.”
The explosion happened in Wazir Akbar Khan, which is currently under the jurisdiction of the Taliban government but was once known as the city’s “green zone,” housing numerous international embassies and NATO.
