Kashmir: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leaders in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir have stated that an international intervention is necessary due to the deteriorating situation in the region, while also paying heartfelt tribute to the victims of the Sopore atrocity.
On this day in 1993, Indian army set the Sopore town on fire, resulting in the martyrdom of over 60 civilians and the destruction of more than 400 shops and other buildings, including homes. While the horrible crime’s perpetrators are still at large, the relatives of the victims are still hoping for justice.
At their comments, the APHC leaders Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, Zamaruda Habib, Yasmeen Raja, Farida Bahenji, Dr. Musaib, Maulana Sajid Nadvi, and Muhammad Aqib denounced India for carrying out atrocities similar to the massacre in Sopore in the region during the past three decades.
They claimed that on that fatal day, savage Indian forces stormed the town of Sopore, mercilessly shot innocent bystanders, and vandalised the apple orchards.
The leaders underlined their appeal for the International Court of Justice to conduct a fair investigation into the horrific atrocity.
In a joint statement released in Srinagar paying respect to the Sopore victims, APHC leaders Khadim Hussain and Syed Sibte Shabir Qumi said that despite the passage of time, Kashmiris still have vivid memories of the cruel game played by the merciless Indian army in 1993.
They said that Indian oppression and tyranny had failed to suppress the freedom spirit of the Kashmiris and they would continue their struggle till taking it to its logical conclusion.
