ISLAMABAD: On Friday, the Supreme Court of Pakistan lifted Faisal Vawda’s lifetime ban following his unreserved admission of guilt.

The appeal of Vawda’s lifelong disqualification order from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), which was issued on February 9, was heard by a three-member apex court bench, led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial and consisting of Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Ayesha Malik.

In order to give Vawda a chance to own his error and apologise for lying to the courts for three long years, the chief justice summons him to court today.

The former federal minister told the court that he sincerely apologises and that he will take any penalty that is meted out to him when he stood before the court today.

The Supreme Court accepted his apologies and determined that Vawda was barred from running for office under Article 63(1)(c) and not Article 62(1)(f)  the same legislation that was invoked to bar former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from running for office for the rest of his life.
