KARACHI: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has begun developing a digital map of the city in accordance with the instructions of Administrator Barrister Murtaza Wahab.
The KMC website will soon provide information about the ‘Know Your Karachi’ interactive map, according to Wahab.
During a Tuesday meeting with Municipal Commissioner Syed Afzal Zaidi, he made the remarks. With the aid of contemporary technology, he continued, “the process of upgrading the delivery of civic services would continue.”
For the first time at the KMC, Wahab reviewed the creation of the “unique” digital map. According to him, the new digital map was made to present crucial facts about the city.

After the map was created, he said that all pertinent information, such as that regarding municipal services, the appropriate police station, wards, UCs, fire stations, hospitals, universities, colleges, public spaces, playgrounds, parks, and libraries, would be available in one location.
The map, which will be posted on the KMC website, will also include information about bus routes and postboxes. The city administrator stated that they would appreciate any comments and ideas from the populace to enhance the map.
He continued by saying that in order for locals, tourists, and other people to receive information, contemporary digital maps of this kind had been created in all major cities across the world and released online.

People can use the map to travel and navigate around the city more conveniently. Karachi is one of the world’s major cities, therefore the new digital map would also be helpful there, he continued.
Wahab instructed the estate department to use all available resources to boost tax recovery, stating that meeting income objectives was crucial to the KMC’s long-term financial stability.
The administrator stated that all revenue departments should mobilize their staff and make every effort to make the best use of the already available means of tax collection while examining the situation regarding the recovery of taxes under the estate department.

Samira Hussain, the estate director, provided a briefing on a number of topics during the meeting and stated that efforts were being made to increase income recovery. She predicted that things will get better shortly. Wahab claimed that steps were being done to make the KMC’s departments vibrant and dynamic and that the outcomes will soon be apparent.
