Protests and long marches for the justified demands are the beauty of the democracies. But, the same become curse when they are being witnessed for the sake of power or any other ill intention. In both the cases such a politics damages the social, political, and financial fabric of a country. Recently, Pakistan is witnessed one of the worst political instabilities of the history of the country. More than 14 political parties are sitting in the government, and the former PM Imran Khan is leading a long march against this government even after getting bullets in his leg. Imran Khan is of the view that the current government is an imported government and is dangerous for the country. On the other hand the government is of the view that Imran Khan and his party is dangerous for the country as Pakistan was standing at the verge of devastation when this government ousted Imran Khan. On the basis of these two view points the political parties are active against each other resulting in huge loses at national and international level.
The long march of Imran Khan is focused at getting the date of general elections from the government. But, the government is not in the favor of elections. The long march which was started from Lahore will reach Rawalpindi soon where the injured Imran Khan will join the march again. Imran Khan is using his democratic right by staging protests and holding long marches. But, the government is in the struggle to stop him from doing so. In a recent move, a petition was filed at the Supreme Court of Pakistan to stop long march of Imran Khan. But, the effort of the government could not be resulted positively as the Supreme Court of Pakistan Thursday dismissed a plea seeking to stop PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s long march, terming the petition infructuous. JUI-F Senator Kamran Murtaza had moved the court last week, seeking to stop the long march, but the SC told him that if the law and order situation worsens, he could file a fresh plea. At the outset of the hearing, Murtaza said it’s been two weeks since Khan’s long march kicked off, and according to PTI Senior Vice President, it will reach Islamabad by this Friday. “Everyday life of people has been disrupted due to the long march. PTI reserves its right to hold a long march, but in no way is it allowed to disturb a commoner’s life.” At this, Justice Ayesha asked the lawyer whether the government had introduced a mechanism to regulate the protests. Justice Minallah also asked Murtaza whether he thought that the administration had become so weak that it could not handle the long march.
No one can deny the fact that Pakistan is currently going through the time when economy has become a great issue. Country recently managed to get itself out of the grey list. Besides this, the recent flood has caused huge damages. Economy has been disturbed badly. In such a situation the political instability in the country can never be in the favor of nation and state. The need of the hour is that all the political parties should join heads together to find the way for getting rid of political instability in the country. Both the sides should try to settle the issues for the greater interest of state. However, any democratic right should not be suppressed.
