QUETTA: The Balochistan government has announced Quetta a trouble area and imposed a state of emergency in the city after rain created chaos, killed many people in the province.
Monsoon continued for a second day in some districts of Balochistan on Wednesday. Due to heavy rain, the rivers and canals of the province have flooded. Many people were killed and injured due to collapse of houses and infrastructure.
As claimed by Balochistan Disaster Management Authority, several districts such as Qila Saifullah, Zhob, Pishin and Harnai are mostly affected by the rain, meanwhile flood conditions have also been obseved in other areas like Muslim Bagh, Qamaruddin, and Khushnoob.
There were sudden rainfall all night in some villages of Khushnoob, a link bridge was demolished and made difficult for rescuers to access the affected areas.
As stated by the assistant commissioner, Civil Hospital of Muslim Bagh was flooded, meanwhile rain in the sloppy areas of Muslim Bagh damaged houses.
Furthermore, the link roads of several areas like Kan Mehtarzai, Loi Band, and Ragha Sultanzai were demolished in the floods.
The administration of Chaman has said that more than 70 houses were demolished by flooding in Badizai and Torkhel areas, while the Harnai-Punjab-Loralai Highway has been closed for traffic due to heavy rain.
As per reports of Levies officials, part of the Valin Dam lying in the Afghan border area of Qamaruddin damaged, causing water to enter low-lying areas and flood 11 homes. The affected people have been shifted to safer places.
Meanwhile, the dead-bodies of two children have been found from Pathankot river in Loralai.
According to the Levies officials said most of the access roads to remote areas of Qila Saifullah, Zhob, and Harnai have been hindered and rescue operations slow down in several areas.
Karachi situation
Over in Karachi, 40-50mm of rain is expected today under the impact of a strong weather system that has developed over the sea.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said that a low air pressure is present in the south of Sindh which is getting humidity from the North Arabian Sea.
The meteorological department said that heavy rain is expected in several districts of Sindh like Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Umerkot, Mirpur Khas, and Tharparkar this morning.
As reported by the PMD, rains are expected to continue in the provincial capital till July 9 which may generate flooding in low-altitude areas.
