PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal to allow legal professionals in the state to possess weapons with restricted bores.
According to a formal statement, Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, who presided over the cabinet meeting, gave officials the order to create a system for issuing those licences to regular people as well.
Throughout order to reduce environmental pollution, the cabinet also resolved to restrict burning used tyres for industrial purposes in the province for a year.
It authorised the creation of three new tehsils, including Talashin Lower Dir district, Utmankhel in Malakand district, and Tanawal in Mansehra district, as well as the creation of a special unit for the investigation of sex crimes in all districts under the Anti-Rape (Investigation & Trial) Act, 2021.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mineral Auction Rules, 2022, a cabinet member training programme in “digital literacy” to encourage e-governance and paperless working in government offices, and the extension of the tenure of 80 muawin qazis in the Malakand division in accordance with Paragraph VI of the Sharia Nizam Adal Regulations were all approved during the meeting, which was attended by ministers and administrative secretaries.
The forum approved the construction of seven sports facilities on the land owned by the auqaf department in Mardan. These facilities will be located on 50 kanals close to the women’s university, 30 kanals in the Shahbaz Ghari neighbourhood, 50 kanals in Ghalla Dher, 30 kanals in Shamatpur, 20 kanals in Turoo Khas, 40 kanals in Kandar, and 66 kanals in Muhib Banda.
It also permitted the transfer of 24.11 marlas of land from the police department to the communication and works department to build a road in Mohallah Qaziabad of Malikpura union council in Abbottabad district, which will benefit more than 15,000 residents. The Swabi Sports Complex is currently located on 30 kanals of land that the auqaf department leases out.
The Provincial Housing Authority Service Regulations, 2022 will replace the 2010 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Housing Authority Service Rules, which the government has approved be repealed.
Moreover, it approved the appointment of Hifzur Rehman as the Local Government Commission’s technocrat member and Javed Iqbal as the chief executive officer of the KP Economic Zones Development and Management Company for an additional three years.
The chief minister praised the government-owned company’s overall performance and mandated “result-oriented” actions to further enhance it and ensure timely project completion.
The EZDMC’s human resources committee suggested a service extension for Mr. Iqbal in August of this year.
The idea was made in light of the government’s directives to appoint individuals to critical positions a few months before the end of the incumbents in order to “maintain continuity,” according to Industries Secretary Saqib Raza Aslam.
The appointment of Abid Sattar and Dr. Alia Hashmi Khan to the Bank of Khyber’s board of directors to fill vacancies also received approval from the government.
The Tehsil Council By-Laws, 2022 (Procedure for Conduct of Business and Meetings) were passed. In order to “maintain uniformity in the business of all local governments,” the government is authorised by Section 113 of the Local Government Act, 2013, to create model bylaws for local governments.
The meeting also considered a proposal to designate Abbottabad and Bihac of Bosnia as twin cities. Through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the forum decided to send the memorandum of understanding to the relevant authorities in Bihac.
The family of Asif, a recent victim of an electric shock in Mansehra district who worked for a private company, will receive a special award of Rs 1 million, the government has decided. Asif was from the Chakaiser neighbourhood in Shangla district.
