Prime Minister AJK,  PPP UK leaders discuss overseas convention; diaspora role in Kashmir solution discussed in Islamabad meeting

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, met Pakistan Peoples Party UK Information Secretary and nominee for Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Zahid Mughal, along with Sabir Mughal, at Jammu and Kashmir House, Islamabad. Minister for Higher Education Zafar Malik was also present during the meeting.

Zahid Mughal congratulated the Prime Minister on assuming office and extended best wishes for his tenure. The meeting featured a detailed exchange of views on the proposed Overseas Convention, including its objectives, scope, and the participation of overseas Kashmiris.

Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore said that overseas Kashmiris are a valuable national asset for Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that they play a vital role not only in supporting the economy through remittances but also in effectively projecting the Kashmir issue at international forums. He said the Overseas Convention would provide an institutional platform to engage overseas Kashmiris in the state’s development process, strengthen their link with the homeland, and address issues faced by expatriate communities.

The Prime Minister added that the Azad Kashmir government is committed to taking practical steps to build greater confidence among overseas Kashmiris and to incorporate their suggestions into policy formulation. He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to further strengthen coordination with the overseas community so their expertise, experience, and resources can be utilized for the socio-economic development of Azad Kashmir.

Zahid Mughal assured the Prime Minister of full cooperation from PPP UK and overseas party workers for the successful organization of the Overseas Convention and expressed confidence that the initiative would help deepen engagement between overseas Kashmiris and the government.
