Focus on merit-based access, technical education and inclusion of artificial intelligence in curriculum

Muzaffarabad (PID) March 26, 2026: Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Chaudhry Faisal Mumtaz Rathore chaired a high-level meeting to review the proposed education package, emphasizing equitable access and modernization of the education system.

The meeting was attended by government ministers including Chaudhry Muhammad Rasheed and Sardar Zia ul Qamar, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Zafar Mahmood Khan, Secretary Higher Education Tehzeeb-un-Nisa, Secretary Elementary and Secondary Education Qazi Inayat, Secretary Finance Hassan Mahmood, and other relevant officials.

During the session, the Secretaries of Schools Education and Higher Education gave a detailed briefing to the Prime Minister on the proposed education package.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister stated that the government’s foremost priority is to ensure that no child is deprived of education due to lack of resources. He directed that education must be provided on the basis of need and merit, so that children from underprivileged and marginalized segments of society can access quality education at their doorstep.

He further stressed that in view of evolving global demands, promotion of technical education has become essential. He instructed the concerned authorities to take practical steps to expand technical and vocational education in order to equip youth with skills and enhance their employment opportunities.

Highlighting the importance of modern technology, the Prime Minister said that emerging fields, particularly Artificial Intelligence, are the need of the hour and should be incorporated into the academic curriculum to prepare students for future challenges.
