Every year, the global Kashmiri community and Kashmiris living on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC), along with their Pakistani counterparts, observe July 19 as the Day of Kashmir’s Accession to Pakistan. This significant date marks the adoption of a pivotal resolution in 1947 by the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference, held in Abi Guzar, Srinagar. Attended by 59 prominent leaders, the unanimous adoption of the resolution highlighted the religious, geographical, cultural, economic ties, and the collective aspirations of the Kashmiri Muslim population, reinforcing the case for Jammu and Kashmir’s accession to Pakistan.
During the partition of the Indian sub-continent, the predominantly Muslim population of Jammu and Kashmir opted to join Pakistan in accordance with the British-led formula. However, the ruling Dogra Raja, Sir Hari Singh, a Hindu, colluded with Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Governor General Lord Mountbatten, causing Jammu and Kashmir to be incorporated into India.
As per the partition formula of 1947, which aimed to divide British India into Pakistan and India, all princely states were expected to align themselves with either Pakistan or India, based on their population’s preferences and geographical proximity. Given that Jammu and Kashmir had an 80 percent Muslim majority and shared a border with Pakistan, it was anticipated that the state would accede to Pakistan.
The observance of accession day serves as a resolute commitment to continue the struggle for freedom from Indian occupation and the complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistan.
The historical significance of July 19 in the history of Jammu and Kashmir underscores the objective of commemorating the Accession Day. It aims to strengthen and promote the idea of the entire Jammu and Kashmir state acceding to Pakistan, which represents the ultimate aspiration of the Kashmiri people. This observance includes a renewed dedication to pursuing self-determination and realizing the vision of the entire Jammu and Kashmir state acceding to Pakistan, in alignment with the historic resolution passed on this day in 1947.
This significant day symbolizes the unwavering determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir in achieving the ultimate objective of the state’s accession to Pakistan.
In light of India’s discriminatory treatment of minorities, particularly Muslims, and its malicious intentions against the Muslim community, we not only acknowledge the foresight of our past leadership but also honor their bravery. The gathering held on July 19, 1947, in Srinagar was not only timely but also an agreement that echoed the aspirations and rights of Kashmiri Muslims.
Unfortunately, since its inception, Pakistan has been subject to global conspiracies. Despite the challenges it has faced, it is evident that had Pakistan not fallen victim to international conspiracies, Kashmir would have become an integral part of Pakistan, fostering genuine peace and tranquility in South Asia.
