Responsible journalism key to a civilized society: PM AJK

Muzaffarabad: Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Chaudhry Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, has underscored that positive and responsible journalism forms the foundation of any civilized society, reaffirming the government’s commitment to promoting democratic values and constructive thinking.

He expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation of the Digital and Social Media Association, led by its President, Naseer Chaudhry. The meeting was also attended by Minister for Forests and Development Authority Muzaffarabad, Sardar Javed Ayub, and Minister for Power Development Organization, Chaudhry Muhammad Rasheed.

The delegation included Senior Vice President Irfan Akram, Vice President Usama Zain, Vice President for Women Alishah Andleeb, General Secretary Raja Shoaib, Secretary Muneeb Abbasi, and Information Secretary Abdul Qayyum.

The Prime Minister stated that individuals and institutions committed to truth, responsibility, and social tolerance are the true guarantors of sustainable development. He emphasized that the government will continue to play its role in strengthening institutions that uphold democratic traditions and promote constructive discourse.

Highlighting the evolving media landscape, the Prime Minister noted that in today’s fast-paced digital era, disseminating news has become easier, but the real challenge lies in delivering truth with integrity and honesty. He stressed that journalists who uphold research, impartiality, and professionalism will continue to remain relevant in changing times.

He warned that the spread of misinformation and unverified news leads to uncertainty, division, and mistrust within society. Therefore, he said, it is imperative for journalists to ensure verification, balance, and accuracy in their reporting.

The Prime Minister further observed that if guided in the right direction, digital media can bring about a positive transformation by raising public awareness, strengthening state institutions, and paving the way for societal progress.

He urged the Digital and Social Media Association to take practical steps for professional training of journalists, curbing fake news, and aligning with modern journalistic standards. He assured that the government would extend full support to foster a responsible, credible, and dignified media culture.

On the occasion, President of the Association, Naseer Chaudhry, reiterated his organization’s commitment to promoting positive journalism, fact-based reporting, and social betterment. He called upon state institutions to respond promptly and effectively to issues highlighted by the media to ensure transparency and improved governance.
